• Election day in the US is November 3rd. The Pennsylvania deadline to register to vote is October 19th; if you are a student on campus and eligible to vote in the US, you are eligible to vote in Pennsylvania. You should register to vote wherever you will physically be on election day.
  • Data from the 2016 presidential election show that although 82% of eligible Swarthmore students registered to vote, only 45% of eligible students actually voted.
  • Make a plan about when and where you will vote before election day.
    • Eligible on campus students are encouraged to vote by mail; off campus students should review information for their state below.
    • November 3rd is a Tuesday. Any students who need to vote during class time are excused for the day (video will be posted as usual).

Exam Logistics

The exam will take place during lecture time (11:45am - 1pm EDT) on Thursday October 15th and will be completed and submitted through Moodle. You should not join the class zoom lecture, but instead complete the exam on Moodle.

It will be an open book exam; feel free to use your notes from class, use the course notion page, test code on your Circuit Playground, and use the questions posted to Piazza. However, you will not be able to post on Piazza for help regarding the exam, and you will not be allowed to actively ask for help from other students, friends, etc. No help from other brains.

Exam Submission

You will submit the answers to the exam using the submission on Moodle where the exam problems are. There will be a separate upload section for you to submit your work (each problem will indicate whether or not work must be shown). We are using the separate upload such that if you have any issues scanning your work, typing it up, etc., you can have extra time to do so, while enforcing the time limit for the exam answers.

If you have questions while taking the exam, join the class zoom lecture and wait your turn. I will then answer your questions.

Academic Integrity

The Engineering department and the college take academic integrity very seriously. Any student caught cheating on an exam will immediately fail the course and be subject to disciplinary action. The course staff understands that midterm periods can be especially stressful and the idea of potentially failing an exam can be daunting. We will make every effort to be available for review before the exam, and if you do not perform well on the midterm but show significant improvement on the final and/or final project, we will factor that into your final grade.

What is being evaluated on this exam

This exam will test your knowledge on topics including if statements, switch-case statements, while loops, and binary numbers. Here's a full list of things you should be able to do on the exam (these are learning outcomes directly from the lectures L1-L9):

Suggestions to prepare for the exam

• Review all in class problems and homework assignments. Re-implement those that were difficult for you to make sure you understand how to do them. Compare your answers with the posted solution to see if there are simpler ways to complete the problems. Expect exam questions that are variants of homework or in class problems.
• Complete the practice problems below, ideally in an exam like scenario. See how much you can complete without referring to your notes. While it's an open book exam, you won't necessarily have a lot of time to go digging for help.
