Tasks Before Class Starts

Equipment

Adafruit Circuit Playground Classic

USB A to Micro B USB cable

USB A to Micro B USB cable

In lecture we will be using the Adafruit Circuit Playground Classic. This a standalone circuit board with a variety of different sensors and lights that we will learn how to program over the course of the semester. Each student will be receiving a kit in the mail with the following:

USB Adapters

The provided USB cable has a USB A connector at the end (see the photo above). Some new laptops, such as MacBooks, do not have USB A connectors; instead they have smaller USB C connectors. If your laptop does not have a USB A connector, you will need to purchase an adapter (example photo). These adapters range from $10-20 and can be purchased online or from most electronics stores. If acquiring the adapter would be a financial hardship for you, please contact Prof. Delano or Ann Ruether and we can assist you.

Lecture and Pre-Class Assignments

Lecture will take place synchronously over zoom (link is on Moodle for security reasons). We understand attending class may be difficult due to internet connections and time zones; as such, lecture is not required, but is highly encouraged. Prof. Delano will assign readings and videos to complete before each lecture (announced via Moodle), with quizzes to complete that count toward your participation grade. Lecture time will focus on working on problems and homework as a class and in smaller groups. Videos will be posted after class.

Please call into lecture from a laptop, with your Circuit Playground, cable (and adapter if needed) at hand.

Homework

Homework will be due Tuesdays and can be submitted through Moodle. We will host wizard sessions before the homework is due in addition to lecture time and office hours (wizard session times and full schedule TBA, consult the syllabus for more details).
